The possibility to
adopt a pension reform aimed to alter the pension scheme, to allow the
government to introduce the automatic update of seniority benefits with the
simultaneous reduction of the budget deficit of the Pension Fund, still exists,
but it is crucial for parliamentarians to demonstrate unity in the decision-making
process. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman appealed to the MPs in
his video address.
He thanked Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andrii Parubii, parliamentarians from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction, the People's Front faction, the Oleg Lyashko’s Radical Party for their willingness to work and bring about changes. But at the same time, the Head of Government expressed regret that the decision hadn’t been put for vote.
"Today, the
Ukrainian Parliament has had every opportunity to adopt a decision on a new
pension system designed for the seniors to get improved pensions. Pensioners have
been waiting for years ... But today it has not happened," said Volodymyr
Groysman.
He drew attention
to the fact that the complicacy of the situation is that the Parliament's
decision is the basis for recalculation of all pension rates.
"And we are
ready for this (to launch the recalculation). But if the decision is further
delayed by Parliament, we won’t be able to do this (raise pensions) in October.
So I urge the MPs to unite and approve the decision the next plenary week - in
early October. We will fulfill our promise, thus 9 million pensioners will
receive larger pensions. I encourage everyone to prepare and make a decision,"
stressed Volodymyr Groysman.
