Ukraine's delegation led by Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine participates in 61st Regular session of the IAEA General Conference

Today, September 18, there took place an opening of the 61st session of the IAEA General Conference. According to the program of the visit of Vienna and participation in the event, Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Ihor Nasalyk is sheduled to have a number of meetings.

In particular, the Minister met with Deputy Director-General for Energy of the European Commission Thomas Gerassimos. During the meeting the officials focused on the issues of nuclear safety at NPPs, the independence of the regulatory body for nuclear safety, the implementation of safety modernization measures following the reports on EU’s stress tests for Ukraine, the stability of the power grid, etc.

Moreover, the program of the trip includes meetings with Chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Kristine L. Svinicki, Head of a Delegation, Minister for Energy of Kazakhstan Kanat Bozumbayev, Chairman of a delegation of Australia, Director General of the Australian Safeguards and Non-Proliferation Office Robert Floyd, to discuss a number of issues in the nuclear industry.

The delegation of Ukraine will take part in the event devoted to the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management.

The same day, the head of the Ukrainian delegation Ihor Nasalyk will speak at the general debate of the session.
