The issue of domestic development and the attraction of foreign air carriers to Ukraine, including low-cost airlines, should be considered in the context of the General Strategy for air traffic development and domestic airports - central and regional. This statement was issued by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman during the Government’s meeting on Wednesday.

«We need a strategy for the development of airports in Ukraine and the development of aviation, because currently each airport endeavors to have its “place in the sun”. Nevertheless, each airport, starting from the Borispol International Airport and ending the regional airports ought to have a blueprint of activities. It is of critical importance to ensure a level playing field for all carriers, whether it is the low-cost airline or not.  We must be guided by the need to ensure cheap, safe and acceptable flight conditions for Ukrainians», stressed the Prime Minister.

In this context, Volodymyr Groysman recalled the Government's decision to renew talks with one of Europe's largest low-cost airlines, Ryanair, on entering the Ukrainian market. The carrier recently announced that it would not enter the nation’s travel market, although in the spring the company launched sales of air tickets for 4 destinations from Kyiv and 7 from Lviv. Volodymyr Groysman noted that he advocates a full audit of already held negotiations and involving of UkraineInvest - Ukraine Investment Promotion Office in the new round of negotiations.

«It's unfortunate that the cooperation with the Lviv airport completely agreed upon on the terms of Ryanair was stopped. It would be advisable to stay in Lviv during the negotiations, as well as in Boryspil and other regional airports as well as it would be possible to adopt the said decisions in a package», summed up the Prime Minister.
