
Representatives of the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine discussed with officials of the U.S. Department of State central issues pertaining to the gas sector
Representatives of the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine
discussed with officials of the U.S. Department of State topical issues
pertaining to functioning and development of the gas sector of Ukraine. The
sides also tackled upon the questions of international cooperation in the
sphere of gas supply, gas transportation as well as the process of the
unbundling of the PJSC National Joint Stock Company Naftogaz
of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian side marked the longstanding, fruitful and mutually
beneficial cooperation between Ukraine and USA aimed to reform and modernize the energy sector.
Acting State Secretary of the Ministry Yuliya Pidkomorna briefed interlocutors that the Ministry of
Energy and Coal Industry is committed to undertake wide-ranging reforms
directed to strengthen the level of energy security, to boost competition as
well as protect consumers and encourage European integration, in particular
within the context of the implementation
of commitments on the implementation of the EU- Ukraine Association Agreement
and of the provisions of the Treaty establishing the Energy Community.
Olexander Lisnichenko
Director of the Department of oil and gas complex, and Valeriy
Nozdrin, acting chairman of the board of the JSC Main
Gas Pipelines of Ukraine urged that Ministry and the Government demonstrate
synergy towards activities of separation of operations for the transportation,
distribution and storage of natural gas as well as the implementation of best
world experience of the operators of the GTS.
During the meeting the sides also touched upon issues on ensuring the
integration of the gas sector of Ukraine to the European, as well as the
development of routes of gas transportation.
Ukrainian side is a responsible transiter of
natural gas to the EU member states and ensures uninterrupted operation of the
GTS of Ukraine, hence the Ukraine counts on the support of international
partners in the field of safe natural gas supply to Ukraine,inter alia in the reverse regime.
On the outcomes of the meeting, officials of the U.S. Department of
State commended the remarkable progress of Ukraine in the process of
implementation of systemic reforms in the energy sector and pledged overwhelming
support of Ukraine towards integration to the European gas sector.
