Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman is committed to present
soon to the society and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine the governmental vision
of the main provisions of the pension reform which is one of the top priorities of the
Government in 2017 and one of the important pillars in cooperation with key
creditor of Ukraine - the International Monetary Fund. This was stated by the
Prime Minister during his communication with journalists.
“We will offer in the nearest future a pension system reform. We base on
three components. The first one - is a fairness principle. The idea is to pay
attention to the seniority of a person. The second - a deficit-free Pension Fund. We consider it is possible
to reduce the Pension Fund’s deficit throughout 7 years to zero or close to
zero”, noted Volodymyr Groysman.
The Prime Minister reminded that the deficit of the Pension Fund today
exceeds UAH 140 billion and outstrips the security and defense budget. Along
with this, despite the significant expenditures, according to the Head of
Government, about 80% of pensioners receive minimum or low-paid pensions.
“And the third one - in case
of approval of the pension reform, we will have an
opportunity to rise retirement payments
starting October 1. I will provide economic
indicators and urge the Parliament to support our initiatives. It will enable
us to upgrade the social status of our retirees. Herewith, both the exchange
rate and prices will be stable”, summed up the Prime Minister.
