Participation
of the state in capital of PJSC PrivatBank has been a
necessary measure, but it was honest with regards to Ukrainian citizens. Prime
Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman
said in an interview with Ukrinform news agency.
"We made
this choice, but we had to do this as it is fair to the Ukrainian citizens. I
will not make political evaluations. What was important for me as the Prime
Minister? Only one thing – twenty million people. That’s
all. Twenty million people who have accounts there, financial resources, credit
cards, etc. I was motivated by the desire to protect these people," explained
the Head of Government, responding to a question about how he assesses the
decision on the nationalization of PrivatBank.
Today, the
Bank is soundly managed, and the situation in it has stabilized, said Volodymyr Groysman.
"What
have we done? We made the decision to transfer the Bank into state ownership,
we increased its capital. We have now appointed new management. I think that Oleksandr Shlapak, a former Finance
Minister, is a highly skilled and responsible professional. That is, the Bank
from the point of view of its management, is in the
hands of professional staff with brain and experience. The Bank has stabilized,
the situation is normal. Today the law guarantees the return of deposits to
physical persons - depositors of the Bank. The Bank's management has the
objective – to develop the Bank, make it more successful. And I am fully
satisfied with that," he noted.
