The Ukrainian side will firmly confront any kinds of manifestations of religious intolerance and anti-Semitism and will do everything possible in order the perpetrators of the brazen attack that took place on the night of December 21 in Uman will be punished according to the law.
In connection with the desecration of the grave of Rabbi Nachman in Uman the Ukrainian side has conducted investigation to identify persons involved in the crime.
Yuriy Lutsenko, Prosecutor General of Ukraine, has taken under personal control the investigation of the incident. He instructed Prosecutor of Cherkasy region to take under the strict control the investigation of criminal offenses committed in the synagogue, located at the Tomb of Rabbi Nachman in Uman.
Yuriy Lutsenko stressed the inadmissibility of anti-Semitism and religious intolerance.
Vadim Troyan, Head of the National Police of Ukraine stressed that "Malicious actions on the night of December 21 of desecration of the burial complex of Rabbi Nachman in Uman, were qualified by Part 3 of Article 161 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine "Violation of equality of citizens regardless of their racial, ethnic or religious affiliation" which provides for punishment of imprisonment up to 8 years".
