  • Volodymyr Groysman and Chinese Ambassador to Ukraine Du Wei discussed fostering of trade and economic interaction between countries

    On Monday, Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Ukraine Du Wei. The main topics of the meeting were practical issues on fostering trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

    Volodymyr Groysman has noted the great potential of bilateral cooperation between states and noted that Ukraine is interested in developing cooperation between the countries. In particular, the Prime Minister has called for strengthening trade and economic relations, cooperation in the industrial sector, as well as in the investment area.

    "We are interested in attracting Chinese investment into Ukraine," he pointed out.

    In this context, Volodymyr Groysman has informed that the Office for Accompanying Investment under auspice of the Prime Minister will be created as soon as possible.

    Discussing the issue of full restoration of existing institutional mechanisms of bilateral cooperation, the sides agreed to hold an Intergovernmental Trade and Economic Commission by the end of 2016 in Kyiv. On the proposal of Volodymyr Groysman, a Ukrainian-Chinese business forum will be organized in the framework of this Commission.

    "We are interested in developing our relations. A well prepared session of the Intergovernmental Commission, the business forum could provide the necessary results aimed at enhancing economic cooperation," emphasized Volodymyr Groysman.

    The Prime Minister of Ukraine and the Ambassador of China also expressed their support for agreeing on a Ukraine-China Action Plan ("Roadmap") on the joint implementation of the idea of building the economic zone of the Silk Road as soon as possible.

    The Prime Minister stressed the need to find solutions to problems in the interaction between the countries. "The Government I head, and Ministers are committed to interact effectively," he emphasized.

    Volodymyr Groysman reminded that Ukraine had decided to simplify the visa regime for the citizens of China. "This is a good step that allows us to improve the cooperation," he said.

    In turn, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Ukraine Du Wei assured of the willingness of China to develop and deepen cooperation with Ukraine according to the strategic character of relations between the two countries.
