Arseniy Yatsenyuk: Ukrainian electricity sector should become an integral part of the European one
"The
best way for Ukraine and the EU is to synchronize the Ukrainian electricity
sector with the European one", said the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy
Yatsenyuk on Tuesday, March 1, at a meeting with the Vice-President of the
European Commission for the Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič.
The Prime
Minister reminded about ideas of creating direct current links between
Ukrainian and European electricity sectors: "This is an outdated Russian
idea which I strongly oppose".
"We need
together to grab the plan of how, in the most speedy way, to make the Ukrainian
electricity sector an integral part of the European one", said Arseniy
Yatsenyuk.
The Prime
Minister of Ukraine stressed that such a step depends on the political will: "I
have the political will to make Ukraine a part of big Europe. If Ukraine has signed the FTA and should become an integral
part of the big economic space of the EU, so it clearly envisages that the
energy sector is to be an integral part too".
