  • Parliament supports draft laws called to ensure introduction of a visa-free regime with the EU

    Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada voted for the draft laws, which are included in the package of legislation, the adoption of which is mandatory for Ukraine to obtain a visa-free regime with the European Union.

    In particular, it concerns the draft Law "On amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine on the implementation of the recommendations of the sixth report of the European Commission on the implementation by Ukraine of the Visa Liberalization Action Plan, on the improvement of the foundations of Ukraine's National Asset Recovery Agency” and is aimed at full implementation of the EU Directive of April 3, 2014 on the arrest and confiscation of objects of criminal activity and the income derived from it.

    According to the Minister of Justice Pavlo Petrenko, the draft law was developed toensure the implementation of recommendations that were made by the recent mission, which noted that Ukraine almost completely fulfilled its obligations under the visa-free regime and set the conditions to align with the European legislation the law that regulates the activities of the National Agency for the identification, investigation and management of corruption-related assets.

    Apart from that, the Verkhovna Rada amended the Criminal and Criminal Procedure Codes on the procedure of seizure of property and special confiscation, as well as the law "About the Agency for the return and management of criminally acquired assets ". The Agency is granted a much broader rights to control those assets that have been seized or confiscated as illegally obtained proceeds or instruments of crime.

    Besides, the law "On Prosecutor's Office" was amended so that to ensure transparency in the organization of activities of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.

    In turn, changes into the law "On combating corruption" were included concerning the operation of an electronic system for the provision and publication of declarations of persons authorized to perform state or local authority functions.
