The Parliament of
Ukraine has taken initial steps in amending the Constitution, "which will
give the opportunity to conduct a full recertification of judges as well as
change the judicial system at large": "We expect the Ukrainian
Parliament to vote for these amendments to the Constitution together with the
new law on the judicial system and the status of judges in second
reading," pointed out Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy
Yatsenyuk at a joint board meeting of the Ministry of
Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the Justice Ministry of Ukraine entitled
"From new police towards new justice and citizenship security", held
on Wednesday, February 10.
The Prime
Minister has noted that the Board’s name sheds light on a plan to embark on
both law-enforcement and judicial reforms to be implemented in 2016.
"We’re
focused on the introduction of real justice in Ukraine that envisages fair
courts, adopting sentences solely on the basis of law and justice under the
aegis of the fully independent Ukrainian judicial system," emphasised Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
