Law №
856-VIII "On the international broadcasting system of Ukraine" was
signed by the President of Ukraine on December 28. After the signing the Head
of State commented that today, in times of hybrid war, this is an issue of
survival of our country, the issue of effective counteracting the propaganda
work that is carried out by representatives of the aggressor country against
our state through spending hundreds of millions.
Minister of
Information Policy of Ukraine Yurii Stets said:
"Ukraine should be known not only as a country which now has a large
number of problems, but also as a country with its history, culture, charm,
good investment climate, opportunities of tourism and that kind and good people
live here".
In turn,
First Deputy Chairman of the VRU Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information
Policy Olga Chervakova assured that the Committee
will control the fulfillment of the law and if necessary change is required
will act accordingly. "We will be doing this work. For us it is a matter
of honor, it's not just our reputation - it is a matter of reputation of our
country in the world", she added.
It should
be noted that on 1 October, 2015, the launch of the International broadcasting
multimedia platform of Ukraine was held and the above mentioned law is a legal
driving force for this platform.
Recall that on 8 December, 2015, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine voted in second reading for a draft law of
the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine "On international
broadcasting system of Ukraine".
