The establishment of the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption was an initiative of the Government of Ukraine, which was supported by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The setting up of this preventive body for the fight against corruption is part of the implementation of the requirements for a visa-free regime with the EU to be granted to Ukraine, the Information and Communication Department of the Secretariat of the CMU informs.

The Commission responsible for the appointment of the NAPC members under the law On Prevention of Corruption is completely independent.

We deny categorically the information that the Government has any impact on this Commission.

The law provides that this Commission comprises only one member of the Government who shall be appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. The Chairman of the National Agency on the Civil Service is an ex officio member of the Commission.

The majority of the competitive commission consists of representatives of the public (5 out of 8 members). It should be noted that at the request of NGO members the preceding composition of the Commission from the public was changed to ensure their impartiality.

Independence of the incumbent composition of the Commission was confirmed by the EU delegation to Ukraine (!!!!).

The Commission has had 7 meetings. 22 candidates have been interviewed. All the meetings were open to the media and broadcast online. All these meetings are available on the Government's Youtube channel.

We believe that the members of the selection commission are subjected to the unlawful pressure.

First Deputy Minister of Justice, Chairman of the selection commission Natalia Sevostyanova appeals to the members of the Commission not to succumb to any political pressure, to complete the formation of the NAPC, to select two other members and to enable the implementation of critical functions of the Agency for the prevention of corruption acts.

On its part, the Government of Ukraine did everything to trigger immediate activity of the Agency. In particular, the draft state budget for 2016 envisages UAH 484 million to ensure the operation of the NAPC.

Besides, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk instructed to find premises for the NAPC and to ensure an immediate start of work.
