A reform in energy
efficiency sector is among major drivers of the Ukrainian economy and one of
the most ambitious investment projects in Europe. Vice Prime Minister –
Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Hennadii Zubko announced following
a meeting with Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Fatih Birol in the framework of his working visit to
France.
"The value
of the Ukrainian market of energy efficiency is estimated at EUR 55 billion.
Its annual capacity can reach EUR2 billion and 100 thousand jobs. And
therefore, each invested Euro will return with large profit," said the
official.
According to him,
at the legislative level, the Ukrainian Government greatly contributes to the
creation of conditions to facilitate the development of energy efficiency market.
Among the enacted laws are those on energy service companies (ESCO) and condominium
associations. The next step is the adoption of laws "On utilities and
commercial metering", "On energy efficiency of buildings" and
"On energy efficiency". These bills are drafted in compliance with directives
of the European Union and are coordinated with the Energy Community, stressed
the Vice Prime Minister.
He added that
soon the French delegation would visit Kyiv to become familiar with possible
investment projects in the sector of energy efficiency. Presently, an Energy Efficiency
Fund scheduled for launch in 2016 stirs interest among the French business
community.
