A directive of
the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine "On signing an Agreement between the
Government of Ukraine and the European Commission on Ukraine's participation in
the programme Creative Europe" was approved at
the Government meeting on Wednesday, November 18. It is a European Union programme for support to cultural and creative sectors and also
on cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union in the Media sub-programme Creative Europe.
In the framework
of the Government session Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Culture of Ukraine Viacheslav Kyrylenko made a presentation
of the program Creative Europe, in which he told about the opportunities and
prospects of development of culture, which will open for Ukrainians after the
signing of the Agreement.
The ceremony of
signing the accession Agreement will take place on Thursday, November 19, with
the participation of Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Culture of Ukraine Viacheslav Kyrylenko and the
European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Tibor Navracsics.
Creative Europe is aimed at supporting culture and
audiovisual sector initiatives, thus promoting cross-border cooperation,
platforms, networking, and literary translation and the development,
distribution, or access to audiovisual works among the countries of Europe. It consists
of two sub-programmes: the Culture and the Media with a budget of €1.46 billion
and envisages financial support for implementation of projects along 18 various
directions.
For the first
year of participation in the Creative Europe Ukraine gets preferential terms,
in particular, the payment of an entrance fee of 1 € for 2016. After signing
the Agreement Ukraine will establish a coordinating body to perform the
functions of the National Programme Office.
