Arseniy Yatsenyuk: If Ukraine prolongs appropriate economic reforms, the amount of foreign financial assistance from the U.S., the IMF and the EU will reach US$ 4 billion
"Now all members of the Parliament, the Government and President should be responsible implementing the economic reform programme. Sometimes these are difficult steps, but they are the only right steps for Ukraine to get the support of the international community", stressed Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk following a meeting with the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Jacob Lew on Friday, November 13.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk reminded that the Government of the United States had already granted a US$ 2 billion loan guarantee to "stabilize the Ukrainian economy, to create new jobs aimed to facilitate Ukraine’s advancement in pursuing economic, political, and fiscal reforms".
"Now it concerns another US$ 1 billion grant from the U.S. Government. And there should be no debate regarding Ukraine following the way of reforms, including those agreed upon with our external creditors and fully compliant with our Memorandum with the International Monetary Fund", he stressed.
The allocation of another US$ 1 billion loan guarantee to Ukraine, according to Arseniy Yatsenyuk, is directly related to the efficiency of Ukraine's performance under an IMF program. He reminded that the next IMF tranche for Ukraine makes up US$1.7 billion.
"If Ukraine prolongs
appropriate economic reforms, the total amount (of financial aid – Ed.) will amount
US$4 billion, which consist
of US$1.7 billion from the
IMF, a US$ 1 billion in loan
guarantee from the Government of the United States and macro-financial
assistance from the European Union and other partners", explained the Head
of Government.
He expressed hope
for "the overall support of the Parliament of Ukraine and the entire
Ukrainian political establishment in making steps to upgrade the Ukrainian
economy".
"We will get support only when we demonstrate consistent and coordinated economic policy of the country", stressed the Head of Ukrainian Government.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk also announced that during the meeting with Jacob Lew they discussed sanctions against the Russian Federation: "A decision on sanctions is directly related to full and unconditional execution by the Russian Federation of the Minsk agreements. This means that the Russian Federation must withdraw its troops, Ukraine should have full access to Ukrainian territories and hold fair and transparent elections, according to Ukrainian legislation".
Arseniy Yatsenyuk expressed gratitude to
the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury for continued
support of Ukraine: "The U.S. Government is one of the
strongest allies of Ukraine in stabilizing
the economic and political situation, support for the territorial integrity and
independence of the Ukrainian state and pursuing crucial
reforms".
