Ukraine and the World Bank to elaborate a cooperation strategy for the next five years

The World Bank offers Ukraine to jointly work to develop a cooperation strategy between the Bank and our state for 2016-2020. This was discussed during a meeting of Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities of Ukraine Hennadii Zubko and World Bank Country Director for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova Qimiao Fan.

Qimiao Fan said that the World Bank begins preparation of the cooperation strategy with Ukraine for the next five years. "The strategy will be based on a system diagnostics of the situation in Ukraine, which in the future will help to identify potential areas for assistance by the Bank," he said.

Hennadii Zubko noted that the regional development is a key priority in the development of cooperation strategy of the World Bank with Ukraine, which covers investment in energy efficiency, life support systems, local roads and infrastructure.

The Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine handed over to the WB Country Director a final report on the outcomes of the implementation of the project Urban Infrastructure worth USD 140 mn. The project’s results included measures to improve energy efficiency, to reduce water losses, to establish 24-hour water supply, etc. in Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Drogobych, Kalush, Kamianets-Podilsky, Kolomyia, Nova Kakhovka, Sloviansk, Boryspil, Novograd-Volynsky, Kremenchuh, Odessa, Chernihiv and Ivano-Frankivsk.

Qimiao Fan confirmed that Ukraine had fulfilled the commitments to the World Bank to timely implement the activities, the Project implemented and targets achieved.

Moreover, Hennadii Zubko and Qimiao Fan discussed the implementation of joint projects Urban Infrastructure project 2 and District Heating Energy Efficiency.
