Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk informed that in early
November he was due to visit Riga. The Head of the Government said on Tuesday,
October 27, during a round table discussion Latvia’s Solidarity with Ukraine on
the path of its European integration, in which he participated together with
President of the Republic of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis.
On behalf of the Government of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk expressed
gratitude for supporting Ukraine by Latvia: "It is our common struggle.
When we are united – we are very strong. And we will overcome all the
challenges, from geopolitical caused by Russia to all social and economic
issues that require finding solutions."
He also expressed gratitude to Raimonds Vējonis for the strong support of the reform process
in Ukraine.
"The best recipe of the reforms has two requirements – a strong
will and a strong faith. We must have the desire and the political will to
implement complicated, sometimes drastic, but vital reforms", stressed the
Prime Minister.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk appealed to the President of the Republic of Latvia:
"You did that 20 years ago. And that's why you
became an EU member, and therefore your country achieved success. We want to do
the same, and we are advancing step by step to achieve the goal".
Today's round table is the best way to learn from the experience of
Latvia, from the examples of effective management and practical reforms.
During
the meeting the President of the Republic of Latvia and the Prime Minister
of Ukraine discussed a number of issues to ensure economic
development of the two countries. Arseniy Yatsenyuk urged: "We need
to accelerate this process, to build a direct link between the Ukrainian and Latvian
companies. This is the best way to make Ukraine closer to the EU".
Arseniy Yatsenyuk pointed out that the relations between
the two countries have a broad agenda.
He has reminded that the Agreement on free trade area
between Ukraine and the EU comes into force on January 1, 2016: "This
agreement is a road map for attracting investment and is aimed at making the
Ukrainian economy thriving, agreeable to the EU standards and really
competitive."
The Prime Minister has also stressed that Ukraine also
relies on Latvian partners concerning the issue of liberalization of visa
regime between Ukraine and the EU: "The Government is focused on the
implementation plan, we are working on technical and
other issues that need to be addressed in the near future."
"We expect that the Parliament of Ukraine will
support bills necessary for visa liberalization," the Prime Minister of
Ukraine emphasised.
Arseniy Yatseniuk called important the cooperation of
the two countries in strategic communications and overcoming challenges that
are today in this area: "We must strengthen our
common position against the Russian Goebbels propaganda. The only best
way to communicate with people is to tell the truth. Not versions of the truth but
the truth."
The Prime Minister recalled that NATO had
established a special fund of strategic communications. The appropriate team is located
in Riga.
"We are convinced that together we will build
a success story. So
let's do it," Arseniy Yatsenyuk
addressed Raimonds Vējonis.
