Interest of international donor organizations in supporting reforms in Ukraine is growing significantly

The donor community prolongs supporting the Government of Ukraine on the way of reforms. Deputy Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities for European integration Roman Tchuprynenko announced following a meeting with the donor community, which took place on Tuesday in Kyiv.

"The global community appreciated the steps of Ukraine on the path of reforms and the importance of these transformations in the geopolitical space. The interest of international organizations to provide a comprehensive aid to the Government of the country has also swollen to facilitate the implementation of key reforms," said Roman Tchuprynenko.

He reminded that current top priority directions for the Ministry of Regional Development include the decentralization of power and the reform of local self-government, the shaping of new regional policies based on European standards, the public housing policy and utilities, improving the energy efficiency and energy saving in Ukraine, the upgrading and development of the construction industry.

Roman Tchuprynenko informed along these areas the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities acts as the beneficiary of the 15 international technical assistance projects worth about US$147 million, which are financed by the governments of the U.S., Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden and the European Union.

"We are grateful to the international partners for their willingness to provide us with expert, communication, financial assistance to support the sustainable democratic development and strengthen European integration processes in the country. The Ministry of Regional Development has prepared and submitted to the donor community the list of specific milestones, programmes and projects that primarily require assistance, and expressed readiness for fruitful cooperation", summed up Roman Tchuprynenko.

It should be noted, on the outcomes of a sector coordination meeting taking place on July 6, 2015 with representatives of donor countries, chaired by Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Hennadii Zubko, the specialists of the Ministry have embarked on the establishment of the Coordination Council within the Ministry to supervise the implementation of reforms and the execution of joint projects. It shall comprise representatives of the following organizations:

• German society for international cooperation(GIZ) in Ukraine;

• Swiss Cooperation Office in Ukraine;

• The United States Agency for International Development in Ukraine (USAID);

• The Swedish Agency for International Cooperation and Development Agency (SIDA) in Ukraine;

• The technical cooperation programme of the Embassy of Canada in Ukraine;

• The European Union delegation in Ukraine.
