  • Volodymyr Demchyshyn in Vienna stressed Ukraine's commitment to IAEA basic principles

    On September 14, in Vienna, Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Volodymyr Demchyshyn addressed the IAEA 59th General Conference.

    In his speech, the Minister has stressed that Ukraine remains committed to the basic principles of the IAEA, which is to preserve and prevent the illegal distribution of nuclear materials.

    The Minister said that the strict control of radioactive materials in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, as well as certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions - key challenges facing Ukraine and the IAEA.

    "It is important to remember that all nuclear facilities in these areas are the property of Ukraine, and their legal status is defined by Ukrainian law," Volodymyr Demchyshyn stated.

    Furthermore, the Minister drew attention of participants to the fact that Ukraine has significant scientific potential and highly qualified specialists in the field of nuclear technology, so it is important to continue to implement joint international projects.

    It is scheduled a series of bilateral meetings during the visit of Volodymyr Demchyshyn to Vienna.
