Arseniy Yatsenyuk in Warsaw: Ukraine wants to become part of the gas energy hub with its European partners

"Ukraine wants to be part of the gas energy hub project Poland, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia have embarked on. This means that gas flows among our countries will be free and we will have an opportunity to trade freely, without any restrictions", said the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk after the meeting with Prime Minister of Poland Ewa Kopacz in Warsaw.

"This is another tool to increase energy independence of Ukraine", stressed the Head of Ukraine’s Government.

Joining this major gas pipeline project that meets all the criteria and standards of the EU energy policy: both the third energy package and the European Charter, "is another way for us to pay a market gas price, to get rid of Russian gas dependence and to introduce new and transparent conditions for functioning of the energy market", highlighted Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

He also reminded about the signed Memorandum, which enables to commence engineering work to construct gas interconnection point between Ukraine and Poland with a total volume of deliveries approximately 10 billion cubic meters of gas.

According to Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Ukraine has already made preliminary calculations, so our country needs US $ 160 million to implement this project: "Now we are waiting for the calculations from our Polish friends".

The Prime Minister of Ukraine also announced that during his meeting with Ewa Kopacz they discussed issues of extended cooperation in customs sector between the two countries: "Today we have taken a joint decision to immediately launch negotiations on signing a new deal to establish joint checkpoints at our customs".

He reminded that under the current agreement in effect from 2001, four points of joint control operate at the Ukrainian-Polish boundary: "We intend to introduce joint control at eight checkpoints between Ukraine and Poland ".

Arseniy Yatsenyuk expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister of Poland for the support for Ukraine, for the constructive dialogue and "for the practical decisions that we jointly arrive at".

As was reported, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk is on a working visit to Warsaw. Today his meeting with President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda is scheduled.
