Prime Minister: Government issues directive to establish National Police authority
"Pursuant
to the Law of Ukraine On Police, the Cabinet of
Ministers of Ukraine adopts a decision on the establishment of a central executive
authority, which shall be subordinate to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of
Ukraine. Today we officially declare about setting up the National Police of
Ukraine", announced Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk at a
Government meeting on Wednesday, September 2.
The
Head of Government instructed the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine to immediately
work out amendments to the Law of Ukraine On the State
Budget for the current year and a draft law for 2016 "to ensure the
funding for reforming the judicial system, and, namely, the establishment of
the National Police".
"The
funds to finance activities of the Ukrainian police to patrol the streets and protect
Ukrainian citizens should be provided both in the current and the following year.
It should be done in the frames of the preparation of the Law of Ukraine On the State Budget for 2016", he stressed.
Arseniy
Yatsenyuk focused on an issue of protection of the Ukrainian police officers:
"They get to the streets to fight organized crime, to defend Ukraine’s citizens,
to instil confidence into each Ukrainian family to freely and safely let their
children out. This means that Ukrainian police should be fully protected by the
Ukrainian state - their life, health, honour and dignity".
The
Head of Government commissioned the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine and the
Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine to hold an analysis of the current
criminal law regarding the need to intensify protection of life and health of
Ukrainian police officers and, if necessary, to submit appropriate legislative changes
to Parliament.
