PM: State Border Guard Service got connected to INTERPOL databases. We've joined a single Criminal Information System

To ensure the implementation of the visa liberalization action plan with the European Union Ukraine joined INTERPOL databases. From now on persons who are included in the INTERPOL databases won’t be able to cross the state border of Ukraine and will be detained by Ukrainian border guards. This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk during his visit of the State Border Service of Ukraine at the Boryspil checkpoint of the state border of Ukraine on Thursday, August 20.

The Premier got familiarized with the functioning of INTERPOL databases, the networks of the State Border Service operating in the first and second border control line are connected to.

He noted that in the framework of execution of measures on visa regime liberalization Ukraine should do "a lot of technical work to provide Ukrainian citizens with the right to travel free to the member countries of the European Union, to the Schengen area". "So, what is happening at Boryspil airport today is one of the core technical conditions required from Ukraine to advance in the issue of visa liberalization", said Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

According to the Head of the Government, to have an access to the INTERPOL databases to check passports of those crossing the Ukrainian state border was among principal requirements of our European partners: "To control travel of wanted persons".

"Finally, for the first time in 20 years, we have got access directly to INTERPOL databases. And now any person subject to request for international police is checked by the State Border Service of Ukraine - information is obtained from the INTERPOL databases. If such a person is in the international search, he is subject to a second line check and appropriate procedural steps".

On August 24 Ukraine drop the CIS criminal search database system, because Moscow hadn’t not fulfilled any procedural orders. "And our connection to INTERPOL databases means that we have now become part of a single Criminal Information System", stressed the Head of Government.

Moreover, he noted that time required for citizens of the Ukrainian state border to cross border was significantly cut: "We started when two years ago to cross the state border it took at least two minutes. Given new technical opportunities of the State Border Service and the introduction of the non-contact authentication method, when the passport is checked by an electronic system, the guard immediately receives appropriate data, so this time is reduced from 2 minutes to a minimum of 10 seconds".

Arseniy Yatsenyuk personally checked the work of the automated system for verification of documents. It took a few seconds to scan the passport and have passport control.
