PM says transparent privatization to make Ukrainian economy effective
Prime Minister of
Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk called
on MPs to approve a decision on transparent and fair privatization of a number
of the state property during the next session of Parliament. The
Head of Government said this at the session of the Verkhovna
Rada of Ukraine on Friday, 17 July.
"This one
thousand of state-owned facilities, which today are not under the control of
the state, but actually under the separate management - is also part of the
corruption in the country," he stressed.
In order to make the
Ukrainian economy effective, Arseniy Yatsenyuk underlined, it is necessary to "leave in the
state property facilities that the state directly requires – these are objects
of national security and defense and the infrastructure that cannot be
transferred to private hands": "The rest must be sold publicly and
transparently."
The Prime
Minister recalled that the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a number of decisions
on privatization of energy facilities – Centrenergo, Odesa Portside Plant, Sumykhimprom
and several regional power companies.
He emphasized the
need for transparent privatization of these facilities, "Now the U.S. and
the EU are to monitor the privatization progress. It
must be sold without fictitious conditions, who is eligible to participate in
the tender for privatization, and who is not. It
must be sold according the principle: who pays more, gets the property. It
must be sold on terms that provide the necessary social package for employees
of enterprises - so that people know that a new owner will guarantee them
appropriate social standards."
"I wish the new Ukrainian privatization would not repeat the old rules, the same oligarchs again would not redistribute the property and reputation of Ukraine would not be undermined. The first privatization of Odesa Portside Plant and company Centrenergo must be carried out the same way as the privatization of Kryvorozhstal," the Prime Minister summed up.
