PM instructs the Justice Ministry to complete its work on facilitating visa-free regime with EU by September

Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk has instructed the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine to complete its work on the implementation of technical options to facilitate a visa-free regime with the EU by September. He appealed to all executive authorities "not to give any technical chance to say that Ukraine has not fulfilled something on the issue of the introduction of the visa-free regime." The Head of Government said at a meeting of the Collegium of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on Monday, 22 June.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk has noted the volume of technical parameters that Ukraine must complete regarding facilitation of the visa-free regime with the EU "has substantially increased over the past 12 months."

The Ministry of Justice is responsible for the country's implementation of a number of these parameters, in particular as regards identification of persons and combing the databases between the State Fiscal Service, the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Interior, as well as the creation of an ad-hoc office to search for assets not just of former officials, but the current ones: "It is necessary that everyone know that this office will work against any corruption, which exists in the system of power."

The Prime Minister asked the Ministry of Justice to complete the relevant work within the shortest period of time possible, by September.

He also urged all public bodies "not to give any technical chance to say that Ukraine has not fulfilled something on the issue of the introduction of the visa-free regime", "All central authorities are performing all the items, and I am convinced that our European friends will take the appropriate decision after evaluating and monitoring all criteria for the visa-free regime carried out by Ukraine."

"We won our visa-free regime on Maidan, as Ukraine was really struggling and fighting for European values and Europe. Our people died flying European flags for democracy, freedom and the right to make Ukraine part of the European Union. And it will surely become part of the EU if we continue further changes and reforms. If our people feel the changes that affect their daily lives – it is the best barometer of reforms," Arseniy Yatsenyuk said.
