PM orders to develop additional mechanisms of compensation for the poorest due to increased rates

Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk has ordered to develop additional mechanisms of compensation for the most vulnerable segments of the population due to increased rates by the next meeting of the Government. He said this at a meeting of the anti-crisis energy centre on Friday, October 31.

According to the Prime Minister, he is concerned that the current compensation mechanism under increased tariff is not perfect.

In this regard, Arseniy Yatsenyuk has ordered the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Social Policy to work out additional mechanisms of compensation due to increased rates: “The most vulnerable social groups should receive additional compensators.”

"The mechanism of subsidies is working well, while the compensation mechanism, I see, is weak. Change it, I need a forecast of financial resources and the number and categories of families eligible for additional funds by the end of the year," the Prime Minister underlined.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk also stressed the need to consider the issue on losses in the budget from the territories controlled by Russian terrorists at a meeting of the NSDC: "We should discuss this issue at the Council of National Security and Defence. This is actually billions of dollars that we will never get from the area controlled by Russian terrorists. We must look for a solution," Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed, adding that he would talk to the President of Ukraine on this issue.

The Prime Minister reminded that the Government of Ukraine had launched a lending program aimed at replacing gas boilers with boilers using alternative fuels.

Chairman of the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine Serhiy Savchuk stated that the program of compensation for the replacement of boilers, at which the State agency works along with Oschadbank, as of 29 October Ternopil, Lviv and Sumy regions have been granted UAH 1 million 150 thousand of loans.

He added that a number of other banks operating with loans for energy saving, also expressed their desire to participate in this program. Moreover, Serhiy Savchuk also stressed the need to use UAH 440 million, allocated by the EU, for energy saving.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk emphasized that he expects proposals for amendments to the relevant orders from the State Agency: "The energy challenge Ukraine faces is our opportunity. We are a country that consumes the most energy in the world according to energy consumption per dollar of GDP. At the next meeting of the Government, I look forward to your suggestions. "

The Prime Minister stressed the need to consider a draft resolution on the improvement of energy efficiency measures at the next Cabinet’s meeting.
