Oleksandr Sych met with UNICEF and UNAIDS Representatives in Ukraine

On October 30, a working meeting of Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Sych with UNICEF Representative Ms. Giovanna Barberis and UNAIDS Country Director in Ukraine Mr. Jacek Tyszko. The parties discussed the achievements of Ukraine on combating HIV/AIDS and other socially dangerous diseases, as well as outlined areas for future cooperation of the Ukrainian state with the international community.

At the meeting the representatives of UNICEF and UNAIDS noted the significant progress in combating HIV/AIDS, Ukraine achieved over the past eight months, and praised the work of Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Sych as the leader of the National HIV HIV / AIDS/TB Council.

Ms. Giovanna Barberis and Mr. Jacek Tyszko assured the Ukrainian side that UNICEF and UNAIDS would continue to remain a reliable partner of our country to counter the spread of socially dangerous diseases, as well as the implementation of other international projects in the health sector.

In turn, Oleksandr Sych thanked the international community for their contribution to the fight against HIV / AIDS and children's rights, and noted that the Ukrainian government would work to optimize efforts in this area. "We reaffirm our commitment to combating HIV / AIDS in the world and will do our utmost," the official said.

However, the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine expressed the hope that work aimed at combating socially dangerous diseases would be intensified not only at the national, but at local levels by extending powers of regional, district and city councils and the involvement of civil society.

"Local authorities are able to more efficiently allocate resources and to respond to challenges. On the one hand, at the national level we operate with statistics, but at the basic level we operate with the facts. On the other hand, a local deputy is directly interested in efficient work with the homeless and other socially unprotected people as well as combating drug abuse, etc.," Oleksandr Sych underlined.
