UN to facilitate search of diplomatic ways to settle and improve humanitarian situation in Ukraine's East
On August 21 Minister of Foreign Affairs of
Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin received Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman
and Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief
Coordinator Valerie Amos.
During the meeting the parties discussed
practical ways to use the opportunities of the United Nations for the peaceful
settlement of the situation in the East of Ukraine, provoked by aggression of
Russia, including mitigating of the humanitarian consequences.
The UN representatives
assured in the readiness of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
to continue personal engagement in this process, providing good services. The organization will strongly support the
efforts directed to seeking a diplomatic solutions to improve the humanitarian
situation in the East of the country.
The Foreign Minister of Ukraine expressed
interest in further cooperation with the UN, in particular in the context of
the mobilization of international humanitarian assistance and monitoring of the
situation in the sphere of protection of fundamental rights and freedoms in the
East of the state and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
