In order to ensure protection of the economic interests of Ukraine in foreign markets there will be established an institution of Trade Representative abroad. The Trade Representative of Ukraine Valerii Pyatnytsky, who by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers was appointed to this post yesterday, informed during a briefing on Friday.

Valerii Pyatnytsky stressed that introducing a Trade Representative post “is a desire to create or coordinate, intensify the system of efforts in foreign markets, support of Ukrainian business”. At this he noted that such step of the Government reflects the global experience, demand of the age.

“ The world is becoming more and more competitive , and countries are trying   to reflect it at most with creating or reforming certain institutions, in order to coordinate the efforts of both the state and the business, to promote the interests in foreign markets, to protect against unfair competition", - said Valerii Pyatnytsky.

Valerii Pyatnytsky said that it is just the economic development which is promoted through trade.

"The main objective, first of all, is to focus on promoting economic and trade interests of Ukraine in foreign markets", - Valerii Pyatnytsky elucidated the task of the new institution. At the same time, he stressed that the country had done much and had achieved certain results in this direction. However, the institution of Trade Representative “triggers creation of the entire network, a powerful one, which includes the efforts of the Government, business structures in various formats."

"It is extremely significant to represent our interests abroad. We plan to restore or actually to create the institution of trade representatives abroad within the diplomatic institutions of Ukraine", - explained Valerii Pyatnytsky.

According to him, principal efforts will be focused on the most important markets for Ukraine: those of the EU, the U.S.A., China, Turkey, North Africa, the Middle East and so on, aimed at "ensuring comprehensive presence and protection of the business."

The Ukraine’s Trade Representative noted that we possess strong legal framework, in particular of the World Trade Organization, our work is based on, and also expressed confidence that the ratification of the Association Agreement with the EU will facilitate further advancement to the foreign markets.

“We will also concentrate on the implementation of the Agreement with the EU in free trade area section. It's actually a new page in relations with the European Union. This agreement doesn’t pose any threats to our partners, on the contrary it opens up new opportunities," Valerii Pyatnytsky explained and added that consultations in the trilateral EU-Russia-Ukraine format concerning implementation of this Agreement prove that "the concerns of our partners are groundless": "This deal creates, first of all, the opportunities for building up trade relations, for their improvement". At this, Valerii Pyatnytsky emphasized that "where we face obstacles, in particular, in the markets of the Russian Federation or the Customs Union, the business finds new ways. And actually trade along many directions does not suffer much, however, there are certain challenges to overcome”.
