Pavlo Klimkin met with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry

On July 2, 2014, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin during his stay in Washington met with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

One of the key issues of the discussion was the implementation of the President Poroshenko’s peace plan.

John Kerry has welcomed the Ukrainian Government steps towards restoring all disrupted infrastructure in the liberated from terrorists areas and reported that the United States allocated nearly $ 7 million in rapid assistance for humanitarian and rebuilding purposes.

Discussing the role of Russia in the events in eastern Ukraine, John Kerry has stated that “while the Russians have said that they want to de-escalate the conflict, their actions have not shown a shred of evidence that they really have a legitimate desire to end the violence and end the bloodshed.”

Special attention during the conversation was paid to Malaysian Airlines Flight 17 shot down by terrorists. Pavlo Klimkin informed about the steps undertaken by Ukraine for the investigation of the causes of this tragedy. The parties agreed on the importance of an impartial and thorough investigation into the disaster.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister and the U.S. Secretary of State agreed to maintain an active dialogue on a range of issues of Ukrainian-American relations.

Pavlo Klimkin invited his American counterpart to visit Ukraine and to chair the next meeting of the Ukrainian-American Strategic Partnership Commission.
