Only civil society activism, fault-finding in actions of the authorities appear the most efficient tool in combating corruption. The Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Pavlo Sheremeta emphasized participating in a TV project “Government maintains ties with the public” which is regularly broadcast by the First National channel.

He stressed curbing corruption is among the topmost priorities for the new Government. Hence, the first step in this direction was approval of the Law of Ukraine “On the public procurement” which satisfies the European standards.

Pavlo Sheremeta noted the steps made by the Government in the direction of combating corruption are closely watched by the partner-countries of Ukraine and by international financial organizations as well. However, according to him, the principal controller of the authorities must be society.
