Olexandr Sych: Government of Ukraine to cooperate with international business in health care reform

"The Government is facing a number of challenges in the health care sector. First of all, we need to respond quickly to the challenges to the industry. And at the same time, we need to define the strategic prospects of its development. In this context we are extremely interested in strategic partnership between our state and international business, which operates in the Ukrainian market", Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Olexandr Sych said at a meeting with heads of companies - members of the American Chamber of Commerce on May 5, 2014.

According to the official, health care reform should be based on the principles of de-monopolization of management, deregulation and de-concentration of resources. "The decrease in the number of regulatory procedures will help to reduce deramatically abuse in this sphere. Having eliminated corruption in the health care system, we will be able to launch its fundamental reforming - in particular, the introduction of health insurance, medical self-government while quality control of the health care by the community, for example, through the mechanism of the Boards of Trustees of health care institutions," Olexandr Sych stressed.

In turn, the Health Minister Oleh Musiy noted: "In the coming weeks the concept of developing a new health care system in Ukraine will be discussed in public. After the adoption of a coherent concept by experts the Government will gradually develop a meticulous reform plan, calculated on the average for three years. "

The strategic goal of the Government is to make the Ukrainian healthcare system of good quality as well as accessible to patients, and the Ukrainian market of medicines, medical products and medical equipment - transparent and competitive, attractive to international companies. "Consulting, technological, expert assistance of our international partners in health reform will be very useful for us. We understand that in return international business expects a favorable investment climate and transparent business environment. The Government of Ukraine is making every effort to create such conditions for fruitful cooperation ", the Vice Prime Minister added.
