PM: Russia's goal is to disrupt elections, oust current government and take over Ukraine
Russia’s aim is to
disrupt the presidential elections, economic assistance for Ukraine, oust the
current pro-European and pro-Ukrainian government and take over Ukraine both
militarily and politically, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy
Yatsenyuk stressed at a government meeting on Friday,
April 25.
He recalled that one
week has already passed since the conclusion of the Geneva agreements aimed at
stabilizing the situation in Ukraine: "After this meeting the government
of Ukraine together with the entire international community has made practical
steps to stabilize the situation. The only country that has not done anything
but brought its troops on alert and involved hundreds of tanks and thousands of
troops on the Ukrainian -Russian border is Russia. "
He stressed that the
Government of Ukraine made practical steps that were discussed and declared in
Geneva. The first step is a "broad and comprehensive constitutional
reform." Arseniy Yatsenyuk
said that public hearing on amendments to the Constitution would be held in
Parliament on April 29: "Our goal is to decentralize power. Our aim is to
protect every citizen of Ukraine. Our aim is to reflect in the new Ukrainian
Constitution responsibilities of local communities, protection of national
minorities, protection of Russian language and protection of other languages,
protection of territorial integrity and unity of the country. And we follow this path."
However, the head of
the Government emphasized that Russia, "by supporting the terrorists on
the territory of Ukraine, has not done anything to withdraw such persons and to
stabilize the situation ": " It is evident that Russia’s goal is to
disrupt the presidential elections in Ukraine so that Ukraine would not have a
legitimately elected president, oust the current pro-European and pro-Ukrainian
government and seize the Ukraine as militarily and politically."
"All these plans
will fail. We will defend our country by all means and methods that we have. By
political, diplomatic and military ones," A. Yatsenyuk
stressed.
The Prime Minister
emphasized that the Government of Ukraine is going to adhere to the Geneva
agreements. "We will carry out a constitutional reform and do our best to
stabilize the situation. We are looking forward to the decision of the IMF in
order to stabilize the economic situation. We will hold fair and transparent
elections. "
"We are ready to
release from liability only those who surrender weapons and immediately vacate
illegally seized buildings, except those who have committed capital
crimes," he said.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk
underlined that we always stand a good chance to settle the situation
peacefully. “But the international community has realized that is the only
state that does not want stability either in Europe or in the world. And this country
is called
the Russian Federation."
