A.Yatsenyuk: Government stands for decentralization of authorities, but condemns calls for federalization

The Government categorically rejects calls for federalization of Ukraine, especially when such appeals are heard from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the foreign state. This was stressed by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk on Thursday, April 10 at the Seventh Kyiv Security Forum “On the Fault Line: to be Secure In – Between”.

Thus he added that the Ukrainian Government stands for decentralization of the authorities.

According to the Prime Minister the principle of decentralization provides, in particular, liquidation of state administrations, transfer of powers to local authorities and executive committees, which are formed on the ground: "It implies the right of everyone to affect both the central and local governments and elect local authorities in their region, not in Kyiv."

Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that for this aim Ukraine has to make clear what will be the new Ukrainian Constitution before the presidential elections.

The Prime Minister noted that during Ukrainian history every government or of each president attempted to rewrite the basic law for themselves, "People were standing for changing the system, not the changing of persons. And the change of the system is in the plane of the new constitutional changes, new balance of powers between the Parliament, the Government, the President and the judicial system and is in the transferring of powers from the central government to regions. "
