Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk meets with Patriarch of Kyiv and All Rus'-Ukraine, Filaret
On April 3, Prime
Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk
met with head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church - Kyiv Patriarchate, Patriarch
of Kyiv and All Rus’ -
Patriarch Filaret informed Arseniy Yatsenyuk about the initiative of the Church concerning fund
raising for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and told about the other community,
social and charitable initiatives of the Kiev Patriarchate.
In particular, as the Patriarch
noted, it has collected 700 thousand hryvnia, and the
Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate offered other churches and
religious organizations to urge their parishioners to help Ukrainian army in a
difficult time for the country.
For its part Arseniy Yatsenyuk thanked the Patriarch
for consistent public position and the efforts of the Church led by him for the
spiritual development of the society, its consolidation, moral and patriotic
education of the younger generation.
During the meeting
they discussed the current problems of church-state relations, the presence of
the Church in various areas of public life. It was agreed on the urgent need to
overcome the problems that had been accumulated in the relationship between church
and state over a long time.
