Arsen Avakov: Law enforcement officers investigate four groups of murders in Maidan

The law enforcement officers have been engaged into investigating of four groups of murders in Maidan. The Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov informed during a joint media conference with participation of the Acting Prosecutor General of Ukraine Oleh Makhnitsky and Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Valentyn Nalyvaychenko.

According to Arsen Avakov, the investigation that is supervised by the Prosecutor General Office has figuratively divided the facts of killings in the centre of Kyiv into four groups.

The first part comprises killings by sharp shooters, the second – results of direct shoots by automatic firearm and semi-automatic weapon, more likely – by the law enforcement officers. One more group of crimes singled out by the investigators includes the facts of killings by the so-called Titushkas. The fourth part of the investigated crimes comprises the facts of deaths of security officers.

The separate fragment studied by the investigators is use of the Berkut special subdivision in the events in the Instytutska street. Arsen Avakov demonstrated the schemes and explained the details.

All participants of this event have been identified and now it is being investigated the stage of involvement of every sharp shooter. The leader of this subdivision has been detained. Now necessary kinds of expertise are being conducted: ballistic, expert firearm tests etc.

“We are discussing the first stage, as the investigation is underway. Hence, we are talking today about the fragments concerning which the decision they can be revealed today has been adopted,” Arsen Avakov noted.
