After the prices for gas and tariffs for heating are raised from July 1, 2014, the number of families having the right to obtain the state support to ensure payment for utilities will increase to 4.5 mln. The Minister of Social Policy Liudmyla Denisova informed during a briefing at the Cabinet of Ministers.

“Presently through a year an average amount of over 800 thousand families receive subsidies for the payment of housing and communal services. Such range of families pay for the utilities not exceeding 10% or 15% of the total family income calculated per month. After raising of tariffs and prices the average number of subsidy recipients will increase by 195 thousand families. At this, the total average monthly amount of such families will make up around 1 million. This program has been working flawlessly in Ukraine for over 15 years and none is going to annul it,” Liudmyla Denisova noted.

Besides, taking into account the approved by the Government decision, the families with low incomes (and there are almost 3.5 million) will obtain the right for compensation which makes up the difference between the cost of communal services after and before the tariff raise. Thus, 4.5 million families will receive the state support and the sum of their payments for communal services will not change,” Liudmyla Denisova explained.

Moreover, the Minister noted that rendering compensation depends on the income of every separate family. If such income is lower than the subsistence minimum for the family, such family will have the right to receive the compensation.

Liudmyla Denisova emphasized that owing to the relevant state support almost one third of the least provided households of Ukraine would pay the unchanged sum for the communal service, as the state bears payment of the compensation of the difference of increased prices and tariffs for such families.
