The MFA of Ukraine welcomes an approval by the UN General Assembly of a resolution “on the territorial integrity of Ukraine” (100 countries voted in favor, 11 – against).

With this resolution the main political and representative organ of the United Nations reaffirmed their devotion to the sovereignty, political independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine in compliance with its internationally acknowledged borders. The General Assembly urged to prevent recognition of any changes in the status of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol basing on the illegal referendum results.

The Russian Federation has been sent a clear message on inadmissibility of actions directed to the partial or complete violation of the national unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine including any attempts to change the borders of our country through threats to apply force, use of force or in any other illegal way. The provisions of the Resolution imply an appeal to the RF to immediately proceed to peaceful settlement through a political dialog and, avoiding unilateral actions, to comprehensively participation in the international intermediary efforts.

A wide, taking into account resolutions of the UN GA adopted with regards to critically significant political issues, circle of support and 47 co-authors of the document from different global regions have become another victory of the common sense over the language of force and confirmed powerful support of Ukraine facing the armed aggression by Russia.

We regret on the voting by the RF against the resolution, which completely bases on the UN Treaty. Being incapable to veto the UN GA resolution this country hurled all efforts to mobilize their satellites and the countries that occupy low positions in democracy rankings. As is said “tell me who your friends are and I’ll tell you who you are”. With this step, together with disapproval, the only among the UN Security Council’s participating countries, of the draft resolution of the Security Council on Ukraine 15.03.14, Russia has lost another chance to return to the circle of civilized world countries and driven itself into a greater isolation on the international arena.

The MFA conveys gratitude to all the UN member states that have been the co-authors and supported the UN GA resolution on “the territorial integrity of Ukraine” and together with our country facilitated it having been advanced and approved.
