Yurii Prodan holds telephone conversation with European Commissioner for Energy

On March 4 Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Yurii Prodan has held a telephone conversation with European Commissioner for Energy Günther Oettinger.

The interlocutors paid peculiar attention to a series of issues concerning stabilization of functioning an energy area of Ukraine in the difficult time for the country.

Yurii Prodan assured that the work of fuel and energy complex of Ukraine including high-risk facilities (nuclear power plants, thermal power plants, hydro-electric power plants) was carried in the planned mode.

In the course of talks Günther Oettinger reaffirmed support of Ukraine’s initiative on diversification of natural gas supplies from the European countries.

Yurii Prodan has stressed Ukraine is ready to pay maximal efforts and fulfill the requirements of the International Monetary Fund aimed at receiving loans needed for reconstruction of gas transport system of Ukraine and future cooperation. The Minister added the Government of Ukraine intended to immediately resume the negotiations between Ukraine and the European Investment Bank with regards to financing of the project “Modernization and reconstruction of the main gas pipeline UrengoyPomaryUzhgorod

The European Commission confirmed readiness to render support to the activity of the Government directed to reforming of the energy sector and integration of Ukraine’s power industry to the energy markets of the EU countries.

Moreover, the Minister has with pleasure accepted an offer to participate at a hearing in the European Parliament to the topic of Energy Community reform process.
