“The first task for the Finance Minister is to cut the state budget,” the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arsenii Yatseniuk informed during a meeting with European Business Association on Monday.

He stressed that the current year’s budget had been enacted on unreal macroeconomic showings: “For that reason, with regards to the International Monetary Fund mission, in the first place we must work on the macroeconomic picture”.

Moreover, Arsenii Yatseniuk underlined the present budget had been designed on unreal revenues of the state budget: “On my preliminary estimates, the state budget might be cut ranging from 65 billion hryvnyas to 80 billion hryvnyas. These are catastrophic numbers”.

“If the situation is settled by us, probably our macroeconomic showings will improve in the III and IV quarter,” explained the Premier.

Arsenii Yatseniuk stresses the task of the present Government is to stabilize the economic situation: “We are ready to stabilize it through unpopular means and agreement with the IMF, through macroeconomic support of the EU, relevant financial and banking policy, transparent tenders, reducing corruption and deregulation of the whole sector. However, the time is needed.”
