    • Infrastructure stability

In the Sumy region, Ukrenergo’s technicians repaired a large high-voltage transmission line, which allowed to restore energy supply and increase its reliability in regions where hostilities continue. Active repairs by regional electricity providers are underway in Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv regions, where electricity supply to 11,000 consumers has been restored during the day.

Ukraine will continue the transit of russian natural gas as long as it is technically possible. A decision has now been taken that while it is technically possible, we will continue the transit of russian gas. russian troops in Ukraine are very cautious about gas transit infrastructure, although they do not spare gas distribution infrastructure. There have been attempts by russia to interfere with the operation of three compressor stations in eastern Ukraine, but after warning of the risks of such actions for transit, “Russian troops began to behave differently”.

    International dimension and sanctions

    • The GTS operator of Ukraine argues for improving the energy security of Ukraine and the region by reducing gas supplies to Europe through the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline and the corresponding redistribution of gas routes to maximize the load on the Ukrainian GTS.
    • This proposal was made by Olha Bielkova, Public and International Affairs Director at OGTSU (Operator of the Gas Transport System of Ukraine), at the meeting of the South-East European Gas initiative of the Energy Community Secretariat (SEEGAS).
    • The Ukrainian GTS is designed so that we do not have separate gas pipelines for transit and separate ones - for gas transportation within the country. First of all, it is the social protection of Ukrainians that needs to be intensified. Currently, transit is an additional security factor for Ukraine's gas transport infrastructure. Proportionally, we will weaken Russia's position in the European energy market.
    • OGTSU stressed the importance of improving Ukraine's energy security by increasing guaranteed capacities with Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Poland on a long-term basis.
    • In addition, the opening of the Trans-Balkan Corridor will contribute to the security of the region, for the full-fledged operation of which Turkish and Bulgarian operators must conclude an agreement to create guaranteed capacities in the Turkey-Bulgaria direction while our Moldovan partners – to remove regulatory barriers.
    • Japan's major oil and gas company is abandoning Russian oil. Eneos Holdings Inc has stopped buying crude oil from Russia in response to Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
