Winter Support: UNICEF to provide additional funds to support more than 6,000 children with disabilities in frontline areas

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) will disburse additional funds to provide winter support to more than 6,000 children with Group A disabilities. This was announced on November 20 during the first ceremony of the Family for Every Child. Better Care Awards by the Minister of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine, Denys Uliutin, together with the head of the UNICEF Country Office in Ukraine, Munir Mammadzade.

UNICEF is joining the comprehensive Winter Support program, which is being implemented by the Government at the initiative of the President of Ukraine. One component of the program is a one-time payment of UAH 6,500 for the most vulnerable categories of Ukrainians. The payment is specifically intended to support children from low-income families and children with disabilities who are in foster families and family-type children's homes (FTCHs), as well as children among internally displaced persons who already receive payments.

"We are sincerely grateful to UNICEF for providing significant assistance to families raising children with subgroup A disabilities. These are children with the most severe forms of developmental disorders who require constant care, specialized equipment, additional medical support, and significantly more resources from their families. That is why such support is critically important," emphasized Denys Uliutin.

The assistance will be directed to families living in Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, Chernihiv and Odesa regions.

"This is already the fourth winter under fire, which poses yet another risk to children's well-being. That is why UNICEF has decided to join the Government's Winter Support Package program. Children living with severe disabilities in frontline areas will receive additional financial assistance to better cope with the harsh realities of these difficult days," Munir Mammadzade emphasized.

As a reminder, applications are being accepted as part of the Winter Support program: until December 24 for UAH 1,000 in assistance for all Ukrainian citizens, and until December 17 for UAH 6,500 for vulnerable groups.
