Liquidators of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident will always be a symbol of our civil feat and sacrifices, who have earned the gratitude of millions of fellow citizens. During a terrible disaster, they volunteered to come to give a helping hand under uncertainty at that time. Unfortunately, it cost them a broken health and in many cases a life. Their courageous actions have allowed to significantly reduce the negative consequences of the disaster for Ukraine and the world.
At present Ukraine is implementing a policy of revival of the Chernobyl exclusion zone. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a decree "On additional measures for the revival of territories that have undergone radioactive contamination and social protection of the victims of the Chernobyl disaster."
To this end, the Government resolves the issue of increasing the size of disability pensions for the liquidators of the Chernobyl disaster and pensions in connection with the loss of breadwinner. We are aware that the liquidators of the Chernobyl accident consequences require advanced medical services and special social protection. Therefore, we will continue to support the system of privileges and medical and preventive measures for liquidators and work on its improvement. I am convinced that supporting people who at the expense of their own health, saved millions of compatriots from the accident aftermath is a responsibility not only of the Government but also of all Ukrainians.
I express immense gratitude to all liquidators of the aftereffects of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant disaster for courage and sacrifice. I wish you sound health, well-being and longevity!
Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr GROYSMAN
