    Fellow compatriots!

From today the  Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine fallen in the struggle for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine will be annually marked on August 29.

The date of August 29th - the end of the dramatic withdrawal of Ukraine’s forces from the Ilovaisk bloodbath will take pride of a place in our national memory. The tragedy and war crimes against civilians and military in those hot August days of 2014 were the result of insidious and direct armed invasion of the Russian army. And the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine  is aimed to memorize the heroes of the defenders, who were killed in unequal battles during the Russian aggression in the Donbas.

The need to decently pay the tribute to the memory of servicemen and volunteers killed while curbing  Russia's hybrid terrorist aggression is a long awaited by the society. Servicemen, veterans, volunteers, journalists, historians, writers, artists, local historians, book publishers, other members of the public, as well as local and central governments have already done unprecedented work to honor our fallen defenders in different regions of Ukraine.

Today I call on everyone to honor the victims of the fallen defenders with a minute of silence.

    Eternal memory to our defenders!

    Glory to Ukraine!

    Glory to the Heroes!

Prime Minister of Ukraine                                  Volodymyr GROYSMAN
