On November 15, the first meeting of the Joint Ukrainian-Qatari Commission on Economic, Trade and Technical Cooperation co-chaired by First Vice Prime Minister/ Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Stepan Kubiv and Minister of Economy and Commerce of Qatar Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani was held in Doha.
"Ukraine has great potential in the field of innovation and the digital economy. This could be cooperation in the areas of e-governance and digital infrastructure, creation and support of startups, and other forms of interaction between scientific institutions. This direction is promising and interesting for the Ukrainian-Qatari cooperation", Stepan Kubiv emphasized.
During the meeting, the First Vice Prime Minister placed a special emphasis on the opportunities for investments in Ukraine, in particular, by participating in the privatization of state-owned enterprises.
The sides focused on discussing key areas of Ukrainian-Qatari bilateral cooperation, in particular trade and economic, investment, transport and communication, maritime transport, business development between Ukrainian and Qatari businesses, innovations and information technologies in smart- cities, tourism, technical regulation, standardization, metrology and conformity assessment, higher education and science. The parties also touched upon cooperation in the field of agriculture, energy and industry, the latest technology and healthcare.
Following the results of the first meeting of the Joint Ukrainian-Qatari Commission on Economic, Trade and Technical Cooperation the parties agreed to hold the next meeting in Ukraine in 2020, and also signed a Protocol containing the key agreements reached during the meeting.
