Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Kingdom of Sweden on cooperation in the field of defense approved

On August 23, at the meeting of the Government, a resolution was adopted on the approval of the Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Kingdom of Sweden on Defense Cooperation. The adoption of the document has provided an opportunity to update the contractual and legal framework in the field of security and defense between Ukraine and Sweden, which in turn created legal grounds for mutually beneficial defense cooperation between the countries and strengthened Ukraine's position in Northern Europe.

The new Agreement is an update of the Protocol between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Kingdom of Sweden on cooperation in the defense sphere, signed in Kyiv on December 5, 2001.

The aforementioned document provides for the following:

- updating directions of bilateral cooperation between the Parties in the field of defense;

- determining the status of military units of the State of one of the Parties, which are located on the territory of the State of the other Party;

- establishment of general financial conditions during defense cooperation;

- a requirement for non-disclosure, publication or transfer of information with limited access obtained within the framework of bilateral cooperation between the Parties.

According to the new document, collaboration between Ukraine and the Kingdom of Sweden will be carried out in the following areas:

- defense policy and security policy;

- development of military education and science, personnel training;

- exchange of information and experience on defense and military issues;

- other spheres of cooperation by mutual consent of the Parties.
