A delegation of Ukraine was approved to participate in the 11th session of the IRENA Assembly
The President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed an order on the formation of a delegation of Ukraine to participate in the 11th session of the Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), which will take place on January 18-21 this year in an online format.
According to the President's order, the Head of the Delegation is Yaroslav Demchenkov, Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine for European Integration; Deputy Head of Delegation - Acting Head of the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving Konstyantyn Hura. The delegation also comprises representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving, and the Embassy of Ukraine in the UAE.
It should be noted that in 2017, the Parliament adopted the Law of Ukraine on Ukraine's accession to IRENA, developed with the participation of the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving. On February 24, 2018, Ukraine became a full member of IRENA.
As a result of its membership, Ukraine is an official participant in the sessions of the Assembly, the highest decision-making body in IRENA, summoned on annual basis. At that, it is the main global platform where government officials from more than 160 countries discuss and identify ways for the future transition in the energy sector.
Therefore, for Ukraine, participation in the session of the IRENA Assembly is a unique chance to consider topical issues of energy and further sustainable development of mankind together with world players in one large international arena. It is also an opportunity to improve the country's image and expand partnerships with other countries.
