Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources looks to launch international platform for action on Ukraine’s green recovery
Ruslan Strilets, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, discussed the launch of an international Platform for Action on the Green Recovery of Ukraine and Germany’s further support for Ukraine’s environmental sector with Jürgen Reimund Keinhorst, representative of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection.
The Minister thanked the German government and the Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, Steffi Lemke, for the URC2024 in Berlin and the initial financial support of EUR 5 million for the Platform.
The meeting focused on the first steps of the Platform’s work. Jürgen Reimund Keinhorst presented Germany’s proposals with a clear outline of the roles of the main stakeholders.
According to Ruslan Strilets, the priority measures include support for Ukraine by such organisations as UNECE, OECD, UNEP in the field of industrial pollution prevention, environmental taxation reform, management of demolition waste, biodiversity conservation and climate change resilience, analysis of sustainable wastewater management in Ukraine, capacity building of local authorities in environmental assessment and monitoring, analysis of the potential of green jobs for the reintegration of veterans and IDPs.
“I am grateful to the German government and to my colleague Steffi Lemke for their systematic support. There is a lot of work ahead. We have to work out everything carefully so that the Platform can work effectively for Ukraine’s recovery,” said Ruslan Strilets.
