On September 1, 2020, the use of a passport of a citizen of Ukraine for travel to the Republic of Belarus through checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Belarusian state border will be terminated. This decision was made today at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
Ukrainians will travel to the territory of the Republic of Belarus with foreign passports.
The expediency of this decision is due to a number of aspects. In particular, it will improve the protection of Ukrainian citizens. After all, in case of loss of a national passport abroad, identification procedure by foreign institutions is long and difficult, in contrast to the operational procedures for documenting travelers in case of loss of foreign passports.
In addition, the time of border control of each citizen will be reduced, as information from foreign passports is read by special devices.
The issue of conducting flawless verification of information on the existence of restrictions on border crossing in accordance with the instructions of the authorized state bodies and in Interpol bases will also be resolved. After all, the lack of information about a person in Latin in the internal passport makes it impossible to automatically read information from the document.
It should be noted that when citizens from the territory of the Republic of Belarus enter Ukraine, the State Border Guard Service will allow them to pass through their passports without hindrance, as the right of Ukrainian citizens to enter Ukraine on any grounds is enshrined in law.
