Yulia Svyrydenko: Veterans policy should cover not only veterans but also their families

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko emphasised that state veterans policy should provide comprehensive support not only for veterans, but also for their family members.

According to her, in collaboration with the public and the Ministry for Veterans Affairs, a Strategy until 2030 has been prepared and is already being implemented, along with a draft law to ensure a comprehensive approach:

• Medical care;
• Employment;
• Education;
• Social support;
• Special focus on veterans’ families.

“The next step is to register the Law on the Fundamentals of State Veterans Policy. It takes into account all stages of the veteran’s path and meets current needs,” said Yulia Svyrydenko.

At the same time, the Government is working with the regions: collecting best practices, preparing recommendations for local authorities and maintaining a constant dialogue with the public.

The day before, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a decision to support specialists who work with veterans. From now on, the minimum wage for such specialists will be UAH 25,000, with guarantees of protection against unjustified reductions in payments.

“The goal of our work is for every veteran and their families to feel real support from the state,” emphasised Yulia Svyrydenko.
